Fred's Rivertown Alehouse (Snohomish, Washington, U.S.A.)

Fred's Rivertown Alehouse 1114 First Street, Snohomish, Washington, U.S.A.  www.fredsrivertownalehouse.com  This is a classic, cool place!!  I love the L shaped sit-up bar that holds 14 people.  They have the cool round stools.  There are quite a few tables for 4, all wood!  In the front there are 4 tables of 6 and there are 3 tables for two. They have a large beer menu so to find out what they have on tap check their web site, there are over 25 on tap.  They also have over 200 single malt Scotches to try out!   Yes they have a nice selection of wine!  For lunch I had the panko crusted Halibut and waffle fries with their in house made tartar sauce.  I recommend trying this out!  My accomplice had the Ruben sandwich with the lobster bisque soup.  The sandwich was huge and filled with lots of corned beef.  The lobster bisque was amazing!! Up on the wall are shelves with al sorts of beer taps. This area of Snohmish is very quaint with lots of old buildings and houses all renovated.  First street has al sorts of shops, places to eat and antique stores.  If you are ever in the area this is the place to go!  It was very busy when I was there!!  Service was very good and friendly!  I loved this place, 2 thumbs up for sure.

Keoki's Paradise Bamboo Bar (Koloa, Kauai, Hawaii, U.S.A.)

Keoki's Paradise Bamboo Bar, 2360 Kaihuna Plantation Drive, Koloa, Kauai, Hawaii, U.S.A.  right near Poipu Beach.  www.keokis.com  A great bar with a beautiful rectangular sip-up bar that seats 20 people.  The bar is all made out of wood and looks great.  I liked the thatched roof on top of the sit-up bar.  All the tables and chairs are all made out of wood and they too look great.  The bar is open to a beautiful tropical garden and pond.  The building itself has a high exposed beam roof that covers both the bar and the restaurant which is beside the bar.  For lunch we had the "Hand Crafted Nachos" that came with fresh chips, black beans, olives, jalapenos, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo and we added,  Kalua Duroc pork which I was told is made in house. They have 12 beer on tap at 29 degrees F, including some local beer.  Wine and hard liquor is available. Other interesting food on the menu was: POKE TOWER Traditional Ahi poke*, avocado, cucumber, sushi rice, sweet potato chips; inform your server if you want to spice it up with a dynamite aioli  or  the, HOLUA SLIDERS  A trio of slider sandwiches - cheeseburger*, BBQ Kalua Duroc pork & fresh fish.  I really enjoyed this place and will be back if I get the chance!!

Lava Lava Beach Club (Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii, U.S.A.)

Lava Lava Beach Club 420 Papaloa Road, Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii U.S.A.  www.lavalavabeachclub.com/Kauai   This is probably my favorite bar on Kauai! Inside is there large rectangular sit-up bar that seats 24 people comfortably.  They have 12 different types of beer on tap. But by my favorite is the out side patio area which is all on the sand.  They have beautiful comfortable patio furniture and all on the beach!!  Every night from 5 to 9 pm they have live music with either 1 or two musicians playing mostly Hawaiian music with some non Hawaiian music mixed in.  Just the right volume so you still can have a conversation.  There are several large permanent umbrellas to shad you from the direct sun.  Mix that in with being on the beach, the surf crashing and the breeze it is fantastic!  They have a Corn Hole game and large Jenga blocks to play with.  For food I only had the Tipsy Tots which are Tater tots, Cheddar Jack Cheese, diced bacon LLBC Siracha sauce (green onions if you wish).  These were sooo good!!!  An amazing place that I highly recommend going to!!!  Did I say that it is right on the beach!!

Maude Hunter's Pub (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada)

Maude Hunter's Pub  (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada) located at 3810 Shelborne Street, Victoria, British Columbia,  Canada.  Very Close to Cedar Hill Road and Shelborne Street intersection.  The following is the history of the Pub taken from their web site at: www.maudehunterspub.ca

"In 1916 Maude Hunter established the first commercial store at the intersection of Shelbourne and Cedar Hill Cross Road. Many Victorians walking up Shelbourne St. would stop at the little store to warm themselves in front of the wood stove, have a chat with Maude and other neighbors before venturing on their way.  These were the days when the corner store was a local gathering place, where you could post a letter, pick an apple out of the barrel, buy candies or groceries, and 5 cent spending money went a long way.  In 1921 the first electric street light north of the Victoria boundary was installed at Shelbourne and Cedar Hill Cross Rd.  When it was known as “Hunter’s Corner”.  Young people congregated outside under this street light on summer weekends.  In 1923 Maude’s father, Captain Hunter and her brother George, added a tea room to the store which housed 2 or 3 little tables.  Maude is remembered as a generous and considerate person, and ran her store and tea room until 1929, when she left the community and moved to Toronto. As late as 1960 remnants of the original root cellar where visible on the property.  In 1986 Maude Hunter’s Neighbourhood Pub was established as the second neighbourhood pub in Victoria, the first being Spinnakers. In 2016 Maude Hunter’s proudly celebrated its 30th anniversary."

It is very close to the University of Victoria and draws a lot of students in.  A large group of us were in on a Wednesday which is also their Wing and Prawn Night.  This day draws a large crowd with a lineup to get in.  We were early enough to get good seats.  The service was good and you never had to wait long for your wings or prawns.
They have 10 different flavours of Wings, and they are very good wings.  The prawns were good too!  They have 26 different beer listed and a couple of ciders as well.  There are 12 different beer on tap many are local cottage brewery's and they get changed out often.  The pub is upstairs above their liquor store.  You climb up a large wide stair case to the pub.  As you enter the sit up bar is to the right and very quaint.  It is small and seats about 3 to 4 people.  There are TV's through out for watching sports.  Pub's parking lot is behind and there is a second one just down the street about one hundred meters/ yards away.  The liquor store is on the main floor below the pub.

Great pub and I look forward to coming back here again!

Central City Brewing at 871 Beatty Street, Vancouver British Columbia, Canada.  Located right across and half a block from the entrance to the BC Place Stadium home to the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League and the Vancouver Whitecaps of Major League Soccer.  Great location and well decorated with lots of wood and beams.  The center piece is their beautiful 16 person sit-up bar. They have 40 different types of British Columbia draft beers on tap.  Of those they have 7 of their own craft beer: Red Racer Copper Ale, Red Racer Pils, Red Racer ISA, Red Racer Pale Ale, Red Racer India Red Ale, Red Racer Super Stella IPA and Red Racer IPA  They also have their Hopping Mad Dry Hopped Cider.  Wine, and other drinks are also available.  As for food, Burgers, Pizza, Appys, Sandwiches and Salads. I only had the Chicken wings and they were ok,  The burgers I have been told are very good.  Off in one corner there is this very neat wrap around leather booth style set  up with several tables.  They also have several long tables that seat around 20 people for either communal seating or larger groups.  In the middle just in front of the bar is a room that I suppose can be booked for functions or events.  It has windows looking in to the bar.
Central city Brewing's brewery is located at 1141 Bridgeview Drive in Surrey, it used to be in their other location at the Central City Brewing at the Surrey Central Mall.
There are also daily food and drink specials.  I enjoyed it here and would come again!!

Silver Heights Lounge (Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada)

Silver Heights Lounge 2169 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada.  Often referred to as the "Heights" or the "Heights Lounge".  Like many places in Winnipeg when you enter the front door, the restaurant is to the right and very separate, the lounge is to the left as you go through the saloon doors. Very popular place and has been around since 1957.  I did not eaten here but I hear the food is very good and they claim to have the "best ribs in town" Check their website for the menu, it looks pretty good. They have a nice sit up bar that seats 12 people.  There are 12 TV's, and one large projection screen that has a pretty good picture.  For your gambling pleasure there are 10 Video Lottery Terminals VLT's.  They have 8 different types of beer on tap, and a decent selection of wine.  They have full hard liquor selection as well.  They have free fresh popcorn!! Service is pretty good and the waitresses are polite and friendly.  You get all demographics here, young, middle age and older! check them out at www.silverheightsresturant.ca  I can't believe that this was my first time here!  A true gem and well worth going to!!

Fry Days Whiskey Trail Lounge (Tuelon, Manitoba, Canada)

Fry Days Whiskey Trail Lounge Tuelon, Hwy 7 and Provincial Road 415,  Manitoba, Canada.  A cool little place, right on the Hwy, that has been around for quite a while.  My guest who has driven past it for many years swears that is used to be called "Whiskey Jack's".  When we asked the waitress about the name Fry Days Whiskey Trail Lounge, she advised long ago the whiskey trail ran through there.  Neat story but I would love to learn more about that and they should have the story on their menu or something like that.  It has a rustic theme inside.  I wanted to say western but my guest said "no" that is was rustic so I went with that.  It has a "L" shaped bar that only sits 3.  There are 2 small TV;s and 5 Video Lottery Terminals VLT's.  The waitress even told an elderly lady that she had been on the machines long enough and made her stop!  That was very nice to see, and the elderly lady left with out getting cleaned out.  Oddly enough there is no beer on tap, only bottles and cans I guess.  They have wine and hard liquor. We didn't eat here but the next table had the Nachos and is was a good size portion and looked great. A couple of guys were in for lunch and both had the hamburger steak covered in gravy.  It smelled awesome and looked good too! Thursday's wings are $7 for a basked and regularly they are $9.  You get to choose from 10 different flavours.  There is a patio area in front that over looks the parking lot and hwy.  I really enjoyed it here. The service was very good and friendly!  I would love to come here again and next time grab something to eat!

The Grove Pub and Restaurant (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada)

The Grove Pub and Restaurant 164 Stafford Street,Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. A great little pub/ restaurant.  The pub is on one sided and the restaurant is on the opposite side, which is very common in Winnipeg.  It has a nice rounded rectangular bar n the middle of the room that seats 16 people. They serve 19 different types of beer on tap and feature local craft beer such as:  Half Pints Brewing's Bulldog Amber Ale,  Torque Brewing's Red Line IPA, Barn Hammer Brewing Company's Saturday Night Lumberjack, and Cask's Hop Pun.   There was a good selection of wine to choose from. For lunch I had the Xavier pizza that had pineapple and bacon on it, with a thin crust.  It was quite good.  My lunch guest had the Salmon Sarnie what came with a fresh salad.  It was described as being "Fabulous! and the salad was very good and very fresh."  Also on the menu was roasted pork belly.  The service was very good and friendly.  They kept you water glass full as well. There are 4 TV's in the pub side and none on the restaurant side.  The washrooms are referred to as "WC".  There is sonly street parking, but I did not have any problem finding a place to park.  The atmosphere was good and I recommend trying out the Grove Pub!!!

The Common (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada)

The Common at the Forks, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.  This is a very cool place located in the Forks.  The Forks is a historical area of Winnipeg where the Red River and the Assiniboine River meet. Natives have been using this point for over 5,000 years.  There is a mall and shops located here and on the main floor in the food court area is The Common.   The bar it self seats 15 people.  There is a very large seating area with very long tables for communal dining.  You can take your drinks any where on the first floor while you shop.  Makes shopping a little more enjoyable!  They have 19 different craft beers on tap and one cider.  They also carry 18 different types of wine but can handle 20. They do not serve hard liquor.  Being n the middle of the food curt you get a good selection of food.  I had perogies, farmer sausage, and borsch which was pretty good. This is a great idea and I hope that it catches on else where!!

Pony Corral Restaurant and bar (Grant Park) Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Pony Corral Restaurant and bar (Grant Park)  400 Walton Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, right in the parking lot of  mall.  They have a few locations in the city. But this one is special.  During the summer every Sunday evening all the car people bring their Muscle cars, Hot rods, exotic cars and the such to the cruise in. The Pony Corral puts out a stand and sell hot dogs (very good) and burgers.  I happened to be there on the last Sunday of the season and it was amazing.  Music was playing and the cars kept rolling in.  I was lucky to go in in my buddy's  1969 Plymouth Roadrunner 440 six pack car!  There were 2 Plymouth Superbirds, Chevelles, Mustangs, GTX's Chargers, Shelby's, Rod's, there and the such!!  The bar/restaurant is divided in two, bar on one side and restaurant on the other.  The bar has a very nice outside patio with a nice brick wall and umbrellas. They have nice flowers planted through out.  Inside, they have a very nice U shaped sit up bar that seats 20- people.  8 different types of beer on tap.  There is a great semi circular booth that seats 7 or 8 people.  Along the south side there is a 20 plus foot long bench along the wall that has tables for 4 or 6.  There are lots of tables for 4 people. Headingley Hotel Sports Bar (Headingley, Manitoba, Canada)

The Headingley Hotel Sports Bar  146 Bridge Road, Headingley, Manitoba Canada just off the Trans Canada Hwy  (just beside Nick's Inn)  www.headingleyhotel.com  I have not been here in 40 years so o say it has changed a lot is an understatement. It has a very nice half circle sit up bar that seats 12 people very comfortably.  8 different beer on  tap.  Now here is where it is really different, Fridays after 930 pm they have Erotic Bingo  sponsored by a love shop.  Instead of cash prizes you get sex toys.  No kidding!  Now to go with that they also have the following martinis with a complimentary accompanying gift.  I am not making this up!! Slippery Vagina Martini comes with a thong,  the Blue Balls Martini comes with lube,  the Rocketini Martini comes with a penis straw and the Forbidden Fruit Martini comes with a condom.  Don't believe me, go check it out for yourself!  There are 12 TV's through out and a large 70 inch one behind the bar.  They also have 20 Video Lottery Terminals VLT's.
There are 6 semi circular booths along the back and the rest is tables and chairs.  I did not eat here so I cant tell you about the food.  I ate at the famous Nick's Inn next door.
My female guest was all in favour of going here, and later that night (as it was Friday) AND  laughed that we should have gotten a group of people and gone back for bingo!!

Sully's Bighorn Tavern (Loomis,Wshington U.S.A.)

Sully's Bighorn Tavern  22 Palmer Avenue, Loomis Washington, U.S.A. Located a few miles west on the Loomis Oroville Road past Spectacle lake and south of Palmer Lake you will find the small town of Loomis (Population is around 200 people)  As you face the building the right is the restaurant and the left is the tavern.  There is an L shaped bar that seats 15.  This tavern only sells wine, beer and coolers.  They are not licensed to sell hard liquor.  There are 3 tables of 4, one table for 2.  In the middle are two pool tables. When we were talking to the bartender about the liquor license, one of the old locals at the bar told us this, " Everyone drives around with a jug on the seat.  You come in for a couple of beer then head out to your car for the good stuff!"  I didn't eat here but with the restaurant attached I can only assume that they serve food here.  Sully's has been around for a long time and I imagine that it will be around for many more years. Everyone was very friendly!

Rigecrest Public House (Shorline, Washingtn, USA)

May 26th 2022
Back at the Ridgecrest, as good as ever. They have expanded and improved their out back patio area. Nice tables and chairs and covered! We sat at a large concrete table that seats 6 easily, with our friends. We were hit with a heavy and short down pour of rain. Came down so hard we could barely hear each other, but were completely dry. Service is great and friendly. Food truck out front. They opened their sibling pub next door called the Drumlun (check my post on it) and you can order food from it.  Love this place and can't wait to come back again!!

Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)

Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub, 1601 Main Street, Vancouver British Columbia, Canada.  It is just south from Science World and south from the Sky Train, Main Street-Science World Station. If you can't guess by now this is and Irish themed pub. It has a beautiful long L shaped bar that seats abut 20 people.  There are 5 booths on the right as you enter that each sit 4 people comfortable.  Something different is there are lots of tables for 2 which is a change. As for larger pub high tables they have 4 that seat 6 to 8 people.  With over 20 different types of beer on tap and a good variety of bottled beer, I am sure you can find something you like.  As for the food, I started off with their home made sausage rolls, they came with a dollop of Dijon  mustard on top.  They were very good.  For my main course I had the Steak and Guinness Pie, AAA Alberta beef cooked tender in rich Guinness gravy with spuds and carrots, baked bubbly with a flaky golden pastry on top.  It is baked in a small cast iron skillet! Comes with fries.  It was exceptionally good!  I thank my friends for the recommendation!  I would go there just to have that again.  They also have traditional Cottage Pie.  One of my friends had the Bangers and Mashed, Two Rivers custom Guinness infused pork banger (it is big), served with creamy mashed potatoes, pale ale onion gravy & Crisp sage leaves.  Nice big portion.  I saw a couple of guys order an extra sausage....one is enough for me! This whole area of Vancouver is being transformed, good to find  a place to park and walk around. There are lots of Craft Breweries in the area and after you finish at the pub just walk south a couple of blocks to Ernest Ice-cream.   I had the salted caramel in a waffle cone...mmmm.  Any way, there are 8 TV's in the pub for watching your favorite sports game.  The service was very good!  It was fairly busy and staff kept coming around cleaning plates and bringing drinks and water.  Our waitress was very cheerful and just happened to be from Ireland.  I would Recommend the Dubh Linn Gate!!

Charcoal and Woodz (Surrey, British Columbia, Canada)

Charcoal and Woodz is a pub that is attached to the Holiday Inn, at the corner of Hwy 15 and 64 Avenue in Cloverdale B.C.  www.charcoalandwoodz.com  This pub has changed names several times through out the years.  There is a nice 7 person sit up bar with blue accent lighting.  There are 7 Booths that are 3/4 of a circle with granite table tops, that can easily seat 6 people.  Great for conversations!  There is one large pub high table that seats 10, in the middle of the pub. There are 3 smaller 3 person pub high tables.  There house wine is "Chaberton" which is a very nice wine and is local from Langley.  The place has a nice smoky smell inside, no it was not of fire!  There is lots of parking that is free.  They have daily drink and food specials.  One issue we had was, the Bartender was also the waitress and she kept disappearing. With 7 TV's you can watch your favorite game in comfort.  Kids are allowed but I don't know if after a certain time they may not be allowed.  They have and outside patio, but it doesn't do much for me.

Wicklow Pub (Vancouver, Canada)

The Wicklow Pub, 610 Stamps Landing, Vancouver, British Columbia Canada.  www.thewicklow.com Pictures don't do this pub's location any justice at all!! Located on the waterfront of False Creek which is not really a creek but the bottom part of the downtown area of Vancouver.  Downtown Vancouver is like a peninsula, and the pub is on the south side of False Creek. You can get to it via Aqua Bus which is a little ferry that runs around False Cree.  More importantly the water front is mostly open to bicycles and foot traffic with miles of paved paths.  There is a parking garage about 1/2 block away.  My friend and I went there on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon.  Our goal was a upstairs open patio to enjoy the sun and water.  We got exactly what we were looking for (as you can see from the photo above)   Nice little patio with a killer view looking west towards Granville Island.  It was happy hour when we were there to a glass of house wine, red or white was $5.00 for a 6 oz. glass.  It was also half price appy's.  We had the Yam fries that came with two dipping sauces one was an chipolte aioli dip, quite nice.  The other thing we has was the assorted olives, yum were they ever good.  It was a selection of various types of olives.  There are 16 different types of draught beer, including a good selection of local beers.  This has a main floor part to the bar and a second story part of the bar each with their own bar.  The bar in the photo is the one on the main floor.  Since it was so nice out side I can really tell you much about the inside of the bar.  But really on such a nice day who would want to be inside. They use only free run local chicken and fresh wild caught salmon.  We really enjoyed our time on the patio and could have spent a few hours in the sun relaxing with a glass of wine.  I look forward to coming back again!

Baselines Pub (Surrey, B.C, Canada)

Baselines Pub 8233-166 Street, Surrey, British Columbia Canada.  Basically at the corner of Fraser Hwy and 166 Street.  It is next to the Comfort Inn, Tim Horton's, Fleetwood Rec Center and across from Rona.  www.basselines pub.com  They have a 20 person sit up "L" shape curved bar.  There are 12 different types of beer on tap and two different types of cider on tap.  The walls are covered in various sports memorabilia including quite a few shadow frames with hockey jerseys in them.  I counted 20 TV's all with sports on them. The staff is very friendly and the service is great, even when they are very busy.   You get blue collar worker crowd at lunch and just after work.  For those who like to gamble there is Video poker, Keno and pull tabs.  The food is good, but I have to say they have the best "Steak bites" I have ever had.  Not covered in batter, they are lightly seasoned, cooked medium, very tender and very good!!  There is an out door patio that looks towards the Rona store. There is one big pub high table that seats 12, there are tub chairs through out.  They have round tables along the south window.  The rest of the tables are rectangular.  The last Friday of every month it Lingerie Lunch".   What is that you ask......well they have 3 waitress's who are not waiting on tables that come out from 1200-1400 hours clad only in skimpy lingerie.  They walk around talking to everyone in the bar and pose for pictures.  They change out fits about every half an hour.  Yes they accept tips.  This proves to be very popular event,   There is lots of parking, so that is not a worry.  Try this place out if not just to try the Steak Bites!!

Beacon Pub & Eatery (Whistler, Canada)

Beacon Pub & Bistro, 4217 Village Stroll, Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. was previously, "Citta" but switched over in 2015.  It is located right in the middle of the Whistler Village and has a great wrap around patio with heaters for sitting outside and watching every one pass by. I guess it is also a good place to be seen by people walking by. It is right across from the grocery store and the liquor store, how convenient! It is about a 2 minute walk from the chair lift. Inside it has great atmosphere, with good service. This place is great whether or not it is winter or summer.  They have removed ski racks right beside the patio.  The situp bar is cosy just as you enter the main door.  There a few levels to this place up stairs.  There is a pool table on the upper floor.  I had the fish and Chips which were breaded in a panko coating and comes with home made tarter sauce, fries and coleslaw.  Nice big portion as well!  My friend had the Pork chops that came with potatoes and Brussels sprouts and it was excellent too!  It has a good atmosphere.

Townhall Public House Coquitlam (Coquitlam, B.C., Canada)

Townhall Public House Coquitlam,  925 Brunette Avenue, Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada.  www.jrgvancouver.ca  One of the many pubs in the Joseph Richard Group of pubs.  Located in what was once the Jubilee Hotel built in 1934 then the French Quarter Pub.  Has a nice 8 person sit up bar with 25 different craft beers. A cool touch, is the 5 digital picture frames through the bar that have very old black and white photographs that keep changing. There are 10 TV's through out as well as Keno and a video poker TV.  They have the original ceiling and fan system which has been restored and working.  There are 5 big fans that turn with long belts at a slow speed.
The food is the same as it is at all of the other Townhall's, I had the Breakfast special, eggs benny with hash browns and toast for $6.00 still a good deal.  There is also the $4.00 bacon or sausage, eggs, hash browns and toast. I think that of all of the Townhall pubs that I have been in this one has the best feel.  It is a little smaller but a much more cozier feel to it, even  more of a pub feel to it if that makes sense.  It is real close to Ikea, so you might want to pop in after shopping. Lots of parking behind.
