Davis Pub (Annapolis, Maryland U.S.A.)

Davis Pub 400 Chester Avenue, Annapolis, Maryland U.S.A.   www.davispub.com  This pub is located in the Eastport area of Annapolis and is truly  neighbourhood pub.  Built in the 1920's by longtime resident George Davis, it was originally a general store.  In the 1940 it was turned in to the Davis Tavern. It is a small cozy bar with lots of atmosphere to it! As you enter the sit-up bar is there and seats 12 people.  There is a side walk patio to the side.  The pub is right across the street from the waterfront and all of the boats.  For lunch, 2 people in my dinning party and I had the daily special which was fish tacos and they had big pieces of fish and were very good. One of the people in my dinning party had the Ruben sandwich and said it was really good.  There are 8 different local types of beer on tap.  Wine and mixed drinks too!  They have 7 TV'S and if the Baltimore Orioles MLB and the Washington Nationals MLB are playing at the same time they will be on TV but on opposite sides of the bar! What a great pub!! Loved it here and can't wait to come back to it again!! You have to try this place out as I know you will love it too!

Sandlot (Baltimore, Maryland U.S.A.)

Sandlot 1000 Willis Street, Baltimore, Maryland U.S.A.    www.sandlotbaltimore.com
This place is quite different from most bars.  It is completely out side, so I don't know if this is a temporary thing or permanent.  I kinda think it is temporary.  It is on the waterfront at the far end of a pay parking lot.  When you enter you go through/ under shipping containers.  It is all on the sand except for where the bar area is.  They have sun shades through out and umbrellas by the water with bar service at your umbrella.  They do not accept cash, cards only (they say for safety). Adults must wear wrist bands to get drinks that prove your id has been checked. No smoking or vaping is allowed.  As for food, they have dogs, burgers, crab and 1/2 and whole rotisserie chicken and Blue catfish. It was neat sitting out by the water watching the ships and boats pass by.  This place is large so there is lots of room.  If you stay down town, it is kind of hard to walk to due to all the construction in the area.  They have an old Airstream trailer that has part of the side cut out and is another bar. All and all kind of neat.

Italian Disco (Baltimore,Maryland U.S.A.)

Italian Disco 4646-1006 Fleet Street, Baltimore,Maryland U.S.A.    www.theitaliandisco.com   The Italian Disco features a long granite bar that seats 18 people on high round seat bar tools. The bar side wall is all brick and the other side of the room has a long bench that seats 12 or so people with tables and chairs facing the bench. They also have 3 booths for 4 people.  The have the classic disco ball spinning and the light reflections twirling around the room.  2 ?flat screen TV's.  They have 36 different types of beer and cider on tap, along with a decent wine selection.  Of course they have the usual mixed drinks.  We Sat  the bar and the bartender were very friendly and provided great service.  As for the food, they have hand made pizza and calzone, salads, sandwiches, subs, pasta etc. We were there on a Friday evening and it was kind of loud, with a DJ playing 70's and 80's music.

Boatyard Bar & Grill (Annapolis, Maryland, U.S.A.)

Boatyard Bar & Grill 400-4th Street, Annapolis, Maryland, U.S.A.   www.boatyardbarandgrill.com  It is across the water from the main downtown area. The best part is to the right when you enter, it is covered with boating memorabilia/ pictures.  they have a great bar that seats 18 people and was always busy when we were there.  In the back there is a smaller sit-up bar that seats 6 people. They have 8 different types of beer on tap as well a wine and mixed drinks. They have a huge menu and tons of seafood dishes, also pizza and sandwiches.  For lunch I had one of the daily special sandwiches which was a large piece of Mahi fish, it was very good!  My dinning partner had the Fish Tacos, which was a huge portion and came with guacamole and beans.  She said they were really good!  The area to the left as you enter is big and has lots of tables, I liked the area to the right much better and was much cozier with a better atmosphere. There are 3 TV's in this side. There is also a nice little gift shop.  In front there is parking lot and if you are lucky to get a spot, take it as finding parking on the street can be challenging.  You may have to walk  bit.

Middleton Tavern (Annapolis, Maryland, U.S.A.)

Middleton Tavern  2 Market Space, Annapolis, Maryland, U.S.A. www.middletontavern.com  This is  very cool, beautiful, historic and amazing bar!!
The following history is from the Middleton's own web site: "Middleton Tavern was host to a galaxy of the nation's most revered leaders during the period following the American Revolution. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin were numbered among its prominent patrons.  The Tavern was frequented by members of the Continental Congress meeting in the State House on such historic occasions as the resignation of General Washington's commission, December 23, 1783, the ratification of the Treaty of Paris ending the Revolutionary War in January 1784, and the Annapolis Convention which laid the groundwork for the Federal Constitution Convention held the following year in Philadelphia. The building was probably occupied as early as 1740. In 1750, Elizabeth Bennett sold the property to Horatio Middleton who operated the building as an "Inn for Seafaring Men." The nautical oriented Middleton also owned a ferry that linked Annapolis to the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.The Tavern was an all important stopping place for early travelers using the ferries to cross the Bay, including George Washington; Tench Tilghman, on the way to Philadelphia with the message of Cornwallis' surrender at Yorktown; and Thomas Jefferson, whose records note that in 1783 he gave Samuel Middleton passage money to Rock Hall on the Eastern Shore. In those days, Middleton's was much more than a tavern; it has been described as one of the early showplaces of Annapolis, with its gardens spreading form Prince George Street to the water's edge. During the Revolution, the Tavern was operated by George Mann, but when the war ended, Samuel Middleton's son Gilbert, operated the business until the 1780's. The next owner was John Randall, a distinguished Revolutionary logistics officer who, prior to the war, was a builder and a partner to the renowned architect William Buckland, designer of Annapolis' Hammond-Harwood House. Jerry Hardesty, the current owner of Middleton Tavern, bought the restaurant in 1968 from Cleo and Mary Apostol who had operated the Mandris Restaurant on the corner for thirty-five years. Hardesty restored the building inside and out and was responsible for changing the name back to the original Middleton Tavern."

We were here in early September 2018 and loved our visit! It has a great sit-up bar that curves around and seats 13 or 14.  It is beautiful in here, lots of wood and class.  8 different beer on tap.  Wine andmixed drinks too!  We started of with a couple of appetizers, the Crab Balls, were good, then we had the 1/4 pound of Steamed Shrimp, they were a bit spicy as they use Old Bay spice and they too were very good.  For our dinner we shared the Fettuccine Alfredo Parmigiano-Regghiano and is was very good!! We really enjoyed this tavern! Can't wait to come back again!!  Another must do place in Annapolis!  Just love the history this place has!!

Almost Heaven Pub and Grill (Harper Ferry, West Virginia, U.S.A.)

Almost Heaven Pub and Grill Harper    177 Potomac Street, Ferry, West Virginia, U.S.A.  Located up the street from from the historic John Brown's Fort in  Harper Ferry, is this small 2 story bar.   It has a narrow spiral stair case to get to the 2nd floor.  The main floor was not open when we were there.  It is kind of bland in here not much of an atmosphere.  Outside on the 2nd floor is a balcony patio on the front and side that has 10 plastic tables with umbrellas. The 2nd floor has 10 inch plank floor.  There is no sit-up bar, or if there is one it seats 3 and looks right at the kitchen.  We did not eat here but another couple there had the fish and chips and said they were good.  It was 90F so it was cooler inside than out side.  Not much exciting or drawing you to come here, looks better outside then inside.

Springhouse Tavern (Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.)

Springhouse Tavern 89 Steinwehr Avenue, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.  Located in the basement of the famous Dobbin House.  The Dobbin House is the oldest building in Gettysburg and was built by Reverend Dobbin in 1776.  The Dobbin House is believed to be to have been the first station of the Underground Railroad north of the Mason Dixon Line.  The Slaves Hideaway is still intact and open for viewing.  During the battle of Gettysburg, the Dobbin House served as a field hospital for both Union and Confederate casualties, even though it was with in the range of guns of armies and was frequently struck by shellfire.
The bar has no windows as it is downstairs and is a very cool place.  The sit-up bar seats 10 people.  The walls are all stone and mortar.  4 local beer on tap, as well they have wine and mixed drinks. They have 4 booths with pew like high backs on them.  There are quite a few tables for four and close together. There are 2 fireplaces.  They weren't in use as it was 90F out side.   All the tables have i inch thick, 8 inch high wax candles that are lit.  All the staff is dressed in period costumes.  The staff was very friendly!  We loved it here and if you  are ever in  Gettysburg or any where near you have to try this place out.  The food must be good as every one in here and the place was packed was eating.  On the menu they have"Porridge of the day" There is all of the usual pub fare too.  If you are looking for a very cool, interesting, historic pub this is a must see and try!!

McGarvery's Saloon & Oyster Bar (Annapolis, Maryland, U.S.A.)

McGarvery's Saloon & Oyster Bar E Market space, Annapolis, Maryland, U.S.A.   Another famous local bar that has been around since 1975, but was bought by new owners a few years back.  The main part is the original and is long and narrow with the beautiful 18 person sit-up bar facing one wall. Along the other wall is a long bench with tables for 2 that can easily seat up to 12 people.  Happy hour is 2 pm to 6 pm Weekdays with $1.00 oysters, $5 wine, beer and mixed drinks and $8 signature appys  (Great happy hour here).  Down to the back and to the left is the new area and it too has a beautiful bar along with a tree growing in side.  Different feel here but nice too. For eats we had the Crab Dip, you gotta try it as it is big and very good indeed!!  They too have had their share of famous people frequent here.  |Very close to the waterfront and shopping, cant miss!!  I loved it here and will be back some day!!

Galway Bay Irish Whiskey Bar & Restaurant (Annapolis, Maryland, U.S.A.)

Galway Bay Irish Whiskey Bar & Restaurant 63 Maryland Avenue, Annapolis, Maryland, U.S.A.  Opened in 1998 by two Irish guys.  Huge selection of various whiskeys.  Many of the ingredients used in their cooking come directly from Ireland, as does the milled flour for their home made bread.  8 different types of beer on tap and all are from small breweries.   It has a beautiful sit-up bar in front and a nice curved one in the back room area.  For lunch the three of us had their signature "Dexter Burger"  Irish Dexter beer, pasture raised locally in Westminster Maryland.  Lean that is cooked medium (Chef's "No exceptions"), shredded lettuce, Spanish onion, signature sauce, toasted Brioche bun and fries.  What an amazingly great burger, about an inch and half thick meat patty, it was  cooked medium maybe even a little less.....  The fries were great too!   I love the brick walls and the dark wood.  This place had a great feel and vibe to it! Great place, many US Presidents have eaten here as well!!  I will be back here for sure!!!

McCoy's Firehouse Bar and Grill (Seattle, Washington U.S.A.)

McCoy's Firehouse Bar and Grill  173 south Washington Street, Seattle, Washington U.S.A.  Very cool place, all old  fire hall decor.  A small but cozy two room bar.   It has a small 6-7 person sit-up bar, 3 and one half booths and a few other tables..  5 flat screen TV'S. There is a side walk patio.   Gets very busy when the NFL, MLB or MLS is on.  They put on a special menu when the games are played down the street. The menu is burger, chicken strips and salads.  They have a peanut butter and bacon burger.  We never ate here but the burger looked really good. Really a cool place and wish I could have spent more time here but we were on out way to the Seattle Mariners baseball game.  The men's restroom features 2 urinals. but if you are under 5 feet 7 inches tall good luck reaching one of them.  Bust be from the days of the Seattle Super Sonics basketball team, LOL!!  Next time for sure!

North Cascades Sports Bar and Restaurant (Lyman, Washington, U.S.A.)

North Cascades Sports Bar and Restaurant, 31429 State route 20, Lyman Washington.  This place has changed hands several times over the years and this might be the best of them all.  As you enter the premise, the bar is on the left and the restaurant is on the right.  I am only taking about the bar which is 21 and over.  It features a 11 person, L shaped split log varnished sit-up bar.  They have 24 different beer on tap. There is 1 table for 4, 1 pub high table for 4, 2 pub high tables for 2.  4 TV'S through out the bar.  For lunch I  had the wood fired pizza, pepperoni, mushroom and black olives.  I would give it 6 1/2 out of 10.  Was not a big fan of the crust. My lunch partner had the Cesar Salad, this was disappointing as the Cesar Salad had fresh tomatoes and shredded cheddar cheese on it.  Sorry but that is not how a Cesar Salad is made.  The burgers looked good as they came out.  The staff was friendly and helpful.  In the back room there is a pool table and a TV.

Beach Bar (Grand Beach, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada)

Beach Bar (at Sandbar Motor Inn) Lot 3 Hwy 12, Grand Beach Manitoba, Canada.  Before I talk about the Beach Bar, you need to know a little about Grand Beach.  Located on the bottom east side of Lake Winnipeg about 55 Km's  (31) miles north of Winnipeg.  This is a big lake: 24,54 square kilometers or, 9,465 Square miles in size.   This is an amazing beach with the finest sand probably anywhere in the world and several miles long.  In the late 1970's or early 1908's Playboy rated it as one of the top 10 beaches in the world!!  Any way i could go on and on about that.  The Beach Bar has a bar but you cant sit at it.   It kind feels like a gymnasium in here.  2 poor tables and 4 different types of beer on tap.  They have 3 tv's here, but when we were here for lunch the Bartender had a Soap Opera going....go figure.  There are a couple of semi circular booths both seating 4 people.  There is n outside patio are n front.  We Were here in \\\\Mid June on  Thursday around 1 pm.  It was very quiet so you think the service was going to be god.  We had to keep waiting as the Bartender kept taking beer can/ bottle returns over paying customers.  For lunch I hd the boiled perogies, bacon and fried onions with sour cream, they were pretty good. D had the Greek Salad and said it too was pretty good.  We shared the Deep fried dill pickles and the mozza sticks they too weren't bad at all.  The parking lot was a mess with huge pot holes and they were filled with water.   Need to get it graded. As for bars in the area this is pretty much it. If for no other reason come up to see the beach (lots of camping here too!)

Watershed Pub and Kitchen (Seattle, Washington U.S.A.)

Water shed Pub and Kitchen  10104-3rd Avenue NE Seattle Washington U.S.A.  www.watershedpub.com  This place can be a little hard to find, it is South for the Northgate Mall and just south of the Thornton Creek Theaters. Across the street and very close is the parkade where you can park for 3 hours for free! Opened in 2015 and has been going quite sell.  There is a nice sit-up bar that seats 15 people, done in light wood, as is all the furniture making is bright and cheerful.  They have 20 different local beers on tap and also a list of beers that are coming up next.  With the rotating taps, once one beer runs out another one comes up! They will have like beers replacing the one that runs out.  They do not carry the big company beers such as Budweiser, Miller etc, every thing is fairly local. They have a large selection of whiskey, vodka and gin, but most are locally made.  For lunch we started off with the baked pretzel and beer cheese dip.  The pretzels are made in a local bakery in Lake City (part of Seattle).  The dip has a very smooth creamy texture and both were very good.  I had the Mac and cheese, which was very good and very creamy!  Had toasted bread crumbs on top and fresh grated Parmesan cheese.  My better half had the Queen quinoa salad that had quinoa (of course), Arugula, red onion, Kalamata olives, Cherry tomatoes and feta cheese.  Very good!!  Also at lunch you can get a large slice of pizza for $3.00 .  They don't sell Coca Cola or Pepsi Cola they sell Seattle cola Co. products. The bar area is marked off with a pony wall and has several tables and chairs.  There are 3 pub high tables seating 4.  There are 3 TV'S, but back ground music is playing and not deafening.  there is a 2nd floor area that over looks the main bar and could seat around 50.  Wasn't open at noon when we were there.  Along the edge of the 2nd floor area is a large display of various beer taps.  Children are only allowed in the non bar area.  There is a side walk patio in front with 5 picnic tables and 2 or 3 tables.   We really liked it here and will be back!!

Sharkeez Bar and Grill (Nassau, Bahamas)

Sharkeez Bar and Grill, Woodes Rodgers Walk, Nassau, Bahamas.  Located right downtown on the water where the Cruise ships come in.  We were the 4th cruise ship away and took a 3 hour tour of Nassau which was great.  My Girl and I decided to stay and eat locally, our friends decided to walk back to the ship eat and come back in to town.  We checked out a few places before deciding on Sharkeez.   The main floor is the largest souvenir shop in Nassau.  Up stairs is the bar, and features a 15 person sit-up bar in the back of the bar.  We sat on the balcony over looking the street, which was great place to watch the goings on.  We watched the Police call a tow truck for a dark Scion or Cube that was illegally parked in front of the bar, and tow it away in no time (top picture).  We both had the fish and chips with locally caught fresh fish.  The batter was light and crispy and the fries were good, very good!!  The wine was good too! We met a wonderful couple Monique and David from Charlotte North Carolina who have been several times over the past few years and keep coming here.  They said the food is always good.  David that the Conch burger and said it was really good! There is lots of seating and spread out.  There are 2 pool tables and b big Gator on the floor (not live).  The service was nice and friendly! We had a great time here and are so glad we stopped in. "Hell ya!" I would come back here again if the opportunity arises!!!

Nirvana Bar (Nassau, Bahamas)

Nirvana Bar,West Bay Street, Nassau, Bahamas.  Located about 20 minutes to half an hour west of downtown Nassau at Love Beach. We hired a driver who recommended Love Beach, drove us there and waited until we were ready to go back.  He dove all 4 of us and the price was well worth it and gave us a running commentary along the trip. I loved the beach as it was nice and quiet, away from the other busy beaches closer to downtown Nassau. The sand was soft and clean!  The Nirvana Bar is right on the beach, brightly coloured and the only bar in the area.  It is a tiny beach bar like one would imagine in a Caribbean beach bar.  6 person sit-up bar with a few tables and chairs.  A decent size free pour rum and coke was around $10.00 USD, but worth it.  Decent little selection of hard liquor, no wine and bottled beer only.  20 feet away is place called Nirvana Grill where you can order food if you want. They serve Burgers, Dogs, Grilled chicken, fish, steak and shrimp and BBQ ribs, Conch salads.  We didn't eat there so cant tell you about the food. There is a little shop to buy souvenirs, right next door.  The bar has a neat Conch wall around the front on the water side. We really enjoyed our time here on the beach with drinks in hand.  The snorkeling was not that good......OK, no one who snorkeled that day saw any fish at all. If you get a chance to go to Nassau, try out this beach if you  are looking for a quiet get away.

Pelicans Bar and Grill (Coco Beach, Florida U.S.A.)

Pelicans Bar and Grill  Coco Beach Pier 401 Meade Avenue, Coco Beach, Florida U.S.A.  The last time I was here (2008 or 2009) this place was called Marlin's good Times Bar an Grill.  It has a new name but everything else is still the same.  It is the last bar on the pier before you have to go through the ticket booth to go further on the pier and that costs$2 per person.  If you show your receipt from Pelicans you get on for free.  The view from here is amazing, you can gaze at the beach and water all day.  They have a multi sided bar that seats 20 people or more.  Air conditioning! Our waitress left us sitting for a while when we sat down.  The bartender noticed we had not been waited on and asked.  when we said no, she was all over the waitress and we were never neglected again.  They have 6 beer on tap and lost of beachy drinks. For lunch I had Coconut shrimp, big jumbo shrimp and covered amazing toasted shredded coconut with big curly fries.  It was some of the best i have ever had!  By better half had the Shrimp Tacos which were stuffed with jumbo shrimp that had a little zip to the sauce and she said it was very good!!   Great place to chill with a drink, bite to eat before going further up the pier.

Cock and Bull British Pub and Eatery, 23  West 45th Street, New York, New York U.S.A. www.cockandbullnyc.com  Another cool pub!  It features a nice 20 person sit-up bar.  They only have 5 TV's through out.  In the back they have a couple of long narrow pub high tables, which is great for groups. As for beer there are 11 on tap.  You can also try the British style Cask Ale which it traditionally served in 20 ounce dimpled pint mug. One cider on tap as well.   Or try the "Best of Britain Beer Flight"  6 beers for $25.00.  All beer is available in $10 oz., 16, oz., or 20 oz.  It comes served in 16 oz. unless you advise otherwise.  If you re looking for a big whiskey selection you have come to the right place as they have a large selection!  As for food we didn't eat here but some of the item off the menu are: Beef and Ale pie, Chicken Pot Pie, Cottage Pie,      Fish and Chips and Bangers and mashed. Lots of old pictures on the walls, old school wall paper. Upstairs is a small little area.  The service was very good here too!!

Tonic Time Square (New York, New York U.S.A.)

Tonic Time Square 727 Seventh Avenue, New York, New York, U.S.A.  www.tonicwest.com  Located very close to Time Square. This place was recommended by a bartender at another pub.  Again this place is long and narrow, typical for New York.  On the main floor there is a 26 person sit-up bar (middle picture above). There are 16 TV's through out the main floor of the bar. They have a lot of pub high tables.  It was quit busy here both down and up stairs.  We were there early on a Friday evening an a lot of people were also eating. We never ate so I can't speak on the food, but the food coming out looked very good.  They have 20 plus different types of beer on tap.  The crowd was typically 20 to 40.  They have good and cheap happy hour prices, so for that it is worth coming in. Well drinks and cocktails $6, Wine$7 Draft beer $5 and shots $5 and runs 4-6 pm.   The service was very good even considering how busy it was. My friend Kathy rated this place as "Happening Place!"  upstairs there is another bar (bottom picture above).  This area is not as big as the main floor area.  They have a 20 person sit-up bar.  There are 10 TV'S and one huge TV, great place for watching sports!  Then there is yet another floor that is half a story up and features a 10 person sit-up bar.  Tonic is open from 1030 am to 400 am.  Our wonderful waitress advised Karaoke runs Friday and Saturday 10 pm to 3 am.
